Just Call Me Horrible Mom

So, today was the Princess' last day of school. I knew it was the last day and I knew there was going to be an ice cream social. Knowing that it was going to be the last day of school, I wanted to stop by Target and buy her teachers a thank you present.

Of course, going to Target made us a little late...and what I didn't know, was that each preschool class was going to sing a special song for everyone. When we got there, The Princess' class was getting ready to sing their song. We were late! I didn't bring my Camera. All the Daddy's were there and I neglected to tell the Breadwinner (I thought it was going to be an ordinary day). So, no daddy for the Princess. It was the one morning that I didn't have time to comb her hair...so she sang with nappy curly hair (everyone else had their hair in braids and wore pretty clothes).

To think...if I had taken a little bit longer, she wouldn't have been able to perform. Thank God for letting me get there just in time. How was I supposed to know??? I read the newsletter...but it didn't say anything specific. So yeah, call me a horrible mom that doesn't have her act together.

Oh, honey, she's still in preschool. It gets worse. Wait until they come home and they're like "Oh, yeah, I have a concert tonight at seven and I need a green striped shirt and black pants. And I have to go for my grade." But of course, by then you'll be used to the "horrible mom" feeling.

I know it feels bad, but don't beat yourself up over it. It's not something she's going to remember forever. There was a kid at our old center who's parents (or anyone) didn't show up for graduation. It was sad - you could see he was sad. But she had you there and she got to do her thing, I'm sure that will suffice.

(Psst, I'm a HORRIBLE camera rememberer - I hoped getting one I loved would make a difference but it didn't.)

Butrfly is right. It happens to all of us. It may not have been ideal, but she was still able to sing with the class.

it DOES happen to all of us.
and she still made it--so yay for that!
(my kids missed their first day of school because I misread the newsletter--and oddly enough, i was in Target too with the girls when they should have been in school!)

You can't do it all right ? At least your head was in the right place and your were thinking about a gift for her teacher.

A lot of parents may not have done that.

So you rock in my book!

Um, yes. This DEFINITELY happens to all of us!!! There's some preschool rules and regulations that never get written down, like "have the entire family show up for special stuff on the last day of school." There's just NO WAY of KNOWING these things! There must be a secret cult somewhere that sets the rules... and they're laughing at the rest of us.

Go easy on yourself. Those preschool teachers always send home the vague letter telling you nothing. Ack!
